Local rugby star donates his British Lions jersey

This coming Friday, the 27th November 2009 in the splendid setting of Llangoed Hall Llyswen the Welsh Charitables RFC are holding their annual Tribute Dinner to the Legendary Wales and British Lions Fullback JPR Williams and to help boost funds local rugby player and present Welsh International and British Lion Rugby Star Andy Powell has donated a fully autographed British Lions Rugby Jersey.

Hon Secretary David Power says "It's tremendous for one of today's players like Andrew to put something back into the game by donating for auction a British Lions Rugby Jersey from the tour of South Africa in the summer, Fully Autographed by his fellow Lions and by doing so showing support for former Rugby Legend JPR Williams on what is his Tribute night, I'm sure there will be a lot of interest in this prized memento for which the Welsh Charitables are greatly thankful".

The jersey is among a number of auction items being donated for the Charity evening, such as a Grogg of JPR wearing his Wales kit kindly donated by John & Richard Hughes of the World Famous Grogg Shop, two photos from the now famous 1973 Barbarian versus New Zealand game donated and signed by Tom David with him tapping the head of New Zealand winger Grant Battey, a painting signed by Welsh Singer Cerys Matthews along with a number of raffle prizes.

All monies raised on the night will go to the Welsh Charitables RFC "We Want a Million Appeal" to form a Trust Fund to support their nominated charities namely, St Anne's Hospice, WREX The Wales Rugby Former International Players Association Benevolent Fund, Ty Hafan the family hospice for young lives, The Princes Trust Cymru and St David's Foundation Hospice Care and during the evening the five charities will each will receive a cheque for £5000 from the Welsh Charitablles RFC.

Joining JPR his wife Scilla and their family, will be a number of former Wales & British Lion Internationals namely, Clive Rowlands, Gareth Edwards, Phil Bennett, Mervyn Davies, Tom David, Dai Morris Ike Stephens andanother local hero Jeremy Pugh former Neath & Wales prop forward presently coaching at Builth RFC to name but a few, some of whom will give an insight into John as a fellow player.

David Power went onto say "It's tremendous to have so many of the Legends of Welsh Rugby turning out to support JPR at his Tribute Dinner and we're looking for the people of Powys to do the same. By going regional with this Tribute Dinner and bringing it to Llangoed Hall we are giving people the chance to see and listen to some of their heroes and legends of the game from the 70's and 80,s and If this proves to be a successful event this could be the start for holding more charity fund raising events in the area".

Tickets for the dinner are £60 per head £600 per table of 10 and are available from the Hon Secretary David Power who can be contacted on 01633 864938 or 07973705062
