Christmas Address
As the year is drawing to a close we can look back on an eventful year for the Welsh Charitables RFC and it's "We Want A Million Appeal" fund raising events. Having held no fewer than five dinners, throughout the year starting off with the Mayor of Torfaens Dinner which was Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Pontypool RFC winning the Welsh Cup, the Tribute Dinner to Phil Bennett, Our first "Dinner with A Legend" for Pontypridd's Bob Penberthy, The Annual Vice Presidents Dinner Honouring the Back Room Boys of the WRU along with making Clive Rowlands OBE a Life Vice President and finishing off with a Charity Dinner at Chepstow RFC, all of which were well attended by our Vice Presidents despite the economic climate.
Due to a few unforeseen hitches we had to postpone our annual domestic golf tournament and the Celebrity Golf Tournament though we are planning for these to come back into our calendar next year.
We now have a Board of Trustees under the Chairmanship of our own David Watkins, joining him on the board are, Dennis Willmott, JPR Williams, Derek Thomas, Peter Ebenezer, Jim Bevan as Secretary to the Board of Trustees and Myself the aim of which is to take charge of and establish the trust fund for our up and running "We Want A Million Appeal.
Our first event of the year which promises to be another busy year is by somewhat of an invitation as Lloyds TSB in conjunction Ngb2g which is the Newport Chamber of Commerce are holding their Annual Luncheon on the eve of the Wales -v- England International at the Celtic Manor Friday 13th February and they have decided that the Welsh Charitables RFC will be the benefactors of the dinner for which we are most grateful, so we have decided to assist them in selling a number of seats for the event (see enclosed details) this will be quickly followed by the Annual Mayor of Torfaen's Sportsmen's Dinner on the 20th March at our new venue The Greenmeadow Golf & Country Club Cwmbran.
On the playing front we have now been joined by Richard Goodey the former Pontypool & Newport Second Row and Captain and present Coach of Chepstow RFC to assist Ron Shottle in organizing a number of Charity Rugby Matches we have also registered a youth team and we are again hoping to arrange some charity games for them as well.
May I now on behalf of all the officers of the Welsh Charitables RFC thank you for your loyal support through this last year, wish you and your families a Very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2009 and we look forward to your continued support - see the Calendar, some dates are to be added so keep checking our website.
