Pontypool RFC 1983 Cup Winning Team Charity Dinner
Members of the Pontypool RFC 1983 Welsh Cup winning squad are getting back together to celebrate the 25th anniversary and raise money for charity.
They are teaming up with the Mayor of Torfaen Councillor Bill King and the Welsh Charitables RFC for a charity dinner in a joint fundraising effort.
It's being held on Friday 14 March, the evening before the Wales v France Six Nations match.
Members of the cup winning team who will be there include Eddie Butler, Jeff Squire, Graham Price, Bobby Windsor, John Perkins, Mark Brown, Staff Jones, David Bishop, Goff Davies, Ray Prosser and Ivor Taylor. They will joined by other former Wales and British Lion Internationals, including JPR Williams, David Watkins, Bryn Meredith, Charlie Faulkner, Dai Morris, Byron Hayward, Kingsley Jones and Nigel Meek.
The dinner is being held at Greenmeadow Golf Club, Cwmbran and is a 6.45pm meet for a 7.30pm sit down. Tickets are £30 or £300 for a table of ten.
David Power, Secretary Welsh Charitables RFC, said: 'We have been working hard to get as many of the 1983 team back together for this special night. They were an incredible team who provided many players to the Welsh squad. . This event will get them back together in the same room to remember that day 25 years ago when they brought the Welsh Cup to Pontypool. Rugby fans are invited to join us to listen the stories of that cup winning day'.
The night will raise money for The Welsh Charitables RFC "We Want A Million Appeal" and the Mayor of Torfaen's charity appeal which is supporting Amnesty International and War on Want. The Welsh Charitables RFC support Ty Hafan the Children's Hospice in Wales, St Anne's Hospice, St David's Foundation Hospice Care, WREX (Welsh Rugby Ex International Players Association) and the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.
