Welsh Charitables RFC Celebrity Golf
Sportstat win the Welsh Charitables RFC Celebrity Golf Classic.
South
Wales based business Sportstat were winners of the second Welsh
Charitables RFC Celebrity Golf Classic held at the Vale Hotel Golf
& Spa Resort. Hugh Copping, Jason Griffiths and Mark Selby were
joined by former Ebbw Vale and Cardiff Blues scrum half Richard Smith
and took the title with 97 points. Gomer Electrical came in second
place, closely followed by the team from the Walkabout.
Playing
alongside the teams on the day were some of rugby's legends including
dual code legend David Watkins MBE, former Wales and Swansea No. 8
turned Scrum V pundit Stuart Davies and Ike Stephens, former British
Lion and Wales prop. They were joined by some current player players
including Dragons Jamie Ringer and Gareth Wyatt. Real Radio sports
pundits David Bishop, Colin Addison and David Giles also took part.
During
the day a Silent Auction was held with the main lot of the evening
going for £600 (six hundred pound). Hugh Copping of Sportstat was the
generous bidder and is rewarded with a round of golf alongside two of
Wales' finest outside halves, Neil Jenkins and James Hook.
Thanks
go to O2 who sponsored the event, Eden Park for their continued support
and all the celebrities who gave up their valuable time to take part.
David
Power, secretary of the Welsh Charitables, said: "Golf is a popular way
for rugby stars to relax so it seemed natural to organise this day to
bring the two sports together. The celebrities were great fun and happy
to give up their time to support us. They made sure all their teams
laughed a lot around the course. Our events are about having fun while
raising money. If a celebrity can smile even after hitting the ball
into the rough or a water feature it shows they are a good sport."
Anyone interested in taking part next year should contact Team Frith on 0870 850 3436 or visit www.welshcharitablesrfc.com
The
Welsh Charitables RFC raise funds for a number of worthy charities
namely, St Anne's Hospice, St David's Foundation Hospice Care, Ty Hafan
the Children's Hospice in Wales, the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust, a
trust for players at all level of the game who get seriously injured
whilst playing the sport and the Welsh Rugby International Players
Benevolent Association.
